This series of blankets emerges from deep reflections on daily life and the intrinsic symbolism of the blanket, a silent object that accompanies our lives. The blanket, a constant presence in our lives, becomes a symbol of protection and comfort, offering refuge from the many nuances of existence. Through these works, the dimensions of painting and sculpture are explored, embodying the need to connect with the very essence of this familiar object, recreating it from scratch. These works include interventions aimed at enhancing tones and contrasts, developing sculpturally through lines and fillings, transforming it into a living and sensitive landscape, a place to settle and move within. The drawings and fillings define volumes, creating boundaries that tell stories, not only personal but also collective. This series of works goes beyond the mere aesthetic presentation of the blanket, exploring a broader social discourse. It reflects on the condition of social stratification through the symbolism of the blanket, evoking images of homeless people living on the margins of society, often hidden behind layers of material, a testament to the injustice and marginalization that persists in our reality. Moreover, these works explore critical moments in human history, such as wars, where the symbol of the blanket takes on even deeper meanings. In contexts of conflict and destruction, the blanket becomes a symbol of comfort and protection, a reminder of the universal desire for safety and belonging, often lost in situations of violence and chaos. Through this series of works, the blanket becomes not only a material object but also a powerful tool for narrating and reflecting on universal themes of belonging, protection, and human dignity, bringing to life these images that cover the world.

The series of bed drawings focuses on the methodical repetition of the same image of a
bed, each with small variations in color or structure. This process of repetition and
variation becomes a visual analogy of the daily cycle of waking up, a universal ritual that
represents both continuity and transformation. Each drawing captures the bed as an
intimate and personal space, a symbol of vulnerability and refuge, but also of transition
and growth. The repetition of the image suggests the idea of habit and routine, intrinsic
elements of daily life. However, the chromatic and structural variations reflect the subtle
differences that characterize each day, revealing how each awakening brings new
experiences, emotions, and perceptions. The bed becomes a symbol of identity and
memory. Each variation represents an accumulation of experiences, symbolizing the gains
and losses that transform us over time. The series emphasizes the idea that, although we
are the same person every day, our experiences continuously shape us, creating a tension
between stability and change. In a broader context, this series of drawings also explores
the concept of time and perception. The bed, as a place of rest and dreaming, becomes a
metaphor for the inner journey, a temporary refuge that allows the mind to process and
reflect on lived experiences. The variations in the drawings suggest that our perception of
time and reality is fluid, influenced by our emotions and states of mind.

DITA E RE
2023 a project realized in collaboration with Brigita Gecaj, Zoja Markaj, Leze Quni, Marija Prenka, Roza Prenka
This work is part of the exhibitions organized by Documentation Center of Kosovo and is supported by the Swiss Confederation - the Swiss Federal Department fo Foreign Affairs.

“Dita e re" is a project I initiated by creating an archive of photographs from my childhood,
just before leaving Rezina, a small village near Gjakova, from which I had to flee due to
the outbreak of war. I vividly remember that, as we were trying to escape, one of the first
things my family took with us were the photographs. It was an instinctive gesture, an
attempt to preserve memories of our homeland from the destruction of war and carry with
us a fragment of a time we didn't know if we would ever have the chance to revisit.

						
After selecting the photographs, I made a significant discovery: in one of them, a carpet
that once adorned my aunt's house had been burned by the Serbian army during a fire.
This carpet became the starting point of my project, as it symbolizes a life before the war,
a moment that was abruptly interrupted and that I tried to resurrect from the ashes of that
carpet destroyed by flames.

						
Subsequently, I decided to transform these photographs into actual carpets, printing them
on fabrics and using them for their creation. The creation process involves the manual
insertion of one thread at a time into perforated fabric; this is an ancient traditional
technique practiced by Kosovar women during the pre-marital period when they created
carpets called "Jani" as part of the dowry. Printing these photographs aims to connect the
images to a tradition passed down from generation to generation, thus transforming the
carpet into an object that tells stories.

						
I then worked on the relational aspect of the project by actively involving the women in my
family, including my mother, grandmother, and aunts, in the making of the carpets. This
project offered us the opportunity to work together and share our personal stories about
the onset of the war, broken bonds, and the changes we experienced. In the exhibition
dedicated to “Dita e re,” visitors can see videos showing hands knotting threads and listen
to voices narrating personal experiences related to the beginning of the war. Weaving the
carpets became the key to giving voice to something otherwise inexpressible, and this is
the beating heart of “Dita e re."


						Therefore, I chose to name the project “Dita e re" to symbolize the rebirth of something
that had been destroyed by the events of war, thanks to the work of hands and the power
of shared stories.
